Types of Flooring Accessories

Underlayments
Subflooring is the first step in installing a new floor. If you are putting down carpet, for example, subflooring will help to provide adequate insulation and prevent moisture damage.

Adhesives
Glue-down carpets and hardwood floors require adhesive to adhere the flooring pieces together.

Mortar, Grout, and Caulk
Tile and brick work is not complete until the seams between tiles or bricks are caulked for a seamless look. Grout comes in many different varieties, so it's easy to tint mortar to coordinate with your tile color scheme. Caulking is often used to seal the final gaps between a floor and its baseboards or quarter round.

Sealers
Many natural stone tiles need to be treated with a sealer in order to prevent dirt and stains on their porous surfaces.

Underfloor Heating
By installing underfloor heating beneath hardwood floors, you can keep your feet warm when the temperature drops.

Floor Mouldings and Trims
Tile edging and trim allow for a smooth transition from floor to wall, creating a finished look. Floor T moulding is necessary when installing hard floors such as vinyl or laminate, but also works well with wood.

Flooring Tools
You can make cutting tile, hardwood, and carpet easier by having the right tools on hand.

Tile Tools
Tile cutting requires precision, and table saws are a great option for trimming tiles to the proper size. Manual tile cutters, suction cups (to keep new tiles from flying away), replacement blades, tile nippers for removing grout residue—these things can all be essential.

Carpet Tools
Carpet tape and razor blades are essential, as well as tack strips. Knee kickers can also be helpful. Stair tools (for use on stairs) and a heat bond iron will make your job easier to complete

Wood and Laminate Tools
To lay hard flooring, you will need a cutter, pull bar, leveler (also called an edging tool), and rubber mallet.

Installing new flooring can be a great way to refresh the look of any room. Hardwood floors in particular lend an elegant touch, while plush carpet makes living areas feel more cozy.
